Top Ten Blogs on ALZ and Dementia

Here's the link (click here)

This'll end up on my side bar. And I'll be hitting them up for stories about their challenges and thoughts too. I just hope no one minds my intrusion.

Charlton Heston Passed Away Today

My husband just came downstairs and told me Charlton Heston had passed away. I know he came out in 2002 and said he was "suffering symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease."

Some of the best movies I remember growing up were Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments and Planet of the Apes. This is sad news indeed.

Rest In Peace Mr. Heston.

My First Email on ALZ

From LKelley, via email, wrote:

I am 63, a very young looking 63.
I climb mountains, sail as crew on a square rigger, take long hikes, build things, pull wells, fix septic tank pumps, design crystal growth factories, ride trials motorcycles, (not trails....trials), build websites and guess what.......One of the reasons I do all this is because tests have shown I have the beginnings of ALZ. Well....SHIT!

What can I do?

1st of all, give thanks every day that I am looking down at the grass, not up!

I eat lots of spinach, blueberries, fish, butter, (not margarine....bugs won't even eat that shit), fruit (from local orchards only). I exercise, do crossword puzzles, read textbooks, take vitamins, take one ibuprofen/day, (people in Europe thinks that may slow ALZ) and generally try not to sit still too long. I sure as hell don't watch much TV.

I cry once in a while.......my wife cried with me once!

I am trying to get a lot done while I still can.......fuck....maybe I'll beat it!

Thanks for sharing, it sounds like you are doing everything possible, the healthy way, to beat the odds of this disease. Bravo!

I REALLY WANT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND...

I'll be "bothering" people to visit here, and hopefully they'll send me their thoughts and feelings on the subject of dementia and stroke. I need other people to get this off the ground. I'm new at this blog thing. And this is me, outside my comfort zone, asking total strangers to tell me their intimate thoughts about their loved ones and how they're dealing with it.

My father has been diagnosed with vascular dementia and I live too far away to help. Thank goodness he has a supportive wife. But, I feel so helpless. So I'm doing this website as a way to help others going through the trials and tribulations of dementia and stroke. I'd like to hear from anyone, especially caregivers.

Please send your postcards to:

SAY IT OUT LOUD
P O BOX 1723
BAKERSFIELD, CA 93302

Or you can email me with your stories at: youcansayitoutloud@yahoo.com

This site will be changing as I add more dimensions to it with all the links I can find on dementia/stroke/heart disease.

Thanks for you time and understanding, and I wish you and your loved ones well.

Dedicated to my DAD

My dad had a stroke in 2003 at the age of 72. My husband and I were in Las Vegas at the time, celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, when I got the call to fly to Texas to say goodbye. He wasn't expected to make it. Well he did make it, I'm thankful to say, but at a cost to his brain. His short term memory is shot.

He's been recently diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. I'll get more into this as we go along. I've got to get my ducks in a row, before I continue on....more later....got get some details here for all....thanks.

Starting Again

Here I GO-O-O-O-O! I don't have a clue where this is gonna go, but I'm glad to have an outlet for my thoughts to go somewhere. My dad has been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, and it pains me to see him go through this. It's worse than Alzheimer's.

But this is for YOU too. I'll slowly build this site to be for others to set their thoughts free too. Hopefully through emails and postcards. Please help me get this going with YOUR THOUGHTS.
